Breaking Barriers in Blue: Chardonnay Henry “Blue Night Out” Rallies Community for Autism Awareness Resources And Inclusion

ChicagoLand, IL   A powerful evening of unity, support, and connection took center stage as Chardonnay Henry brought the vision of "Blue Night Out" to life, powered by Autism Axis Network. An event that highlighted the strength of community, and the importance of autism awareness across the Chicagoland area.

The outreach night created a welcoming space where families, educators, and community organizations came together with a shared purpose: to uplift, inform, and support individuals and families navigating autism.

The heart of the evening was truly seen in the joy of the children and families in attendance. Autistic participants were able to freely engage in a safe and welcoming environment. Laughing, playing, and connecting with others through a variety of sensory-friendly toys and interactive games was the highlight of our night. From hands-on activities to calming sensory stations, the community gathering was designed to meet children where they are, all while encouraging both fun and comfort.

Food and refreshments were also provided, allowing guests to relax, recharge, and fully enjoy the experience. This thoughtful touch helped foster an atmosphere that felt less like an event and more like a true safe community gathering, where everyone belonged.

The evening was marked by meaningful conversations, resource sharing, and a strong sense of belonging. Families from across District 89 schools including Roosevelt Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, and Garfield Elementary School joined the event, helping create an atmosphere that was both impactful and inspiring.

A special acknowledgment goes to the dedicated staff of Roosevelt Elementary School, whose partnership played a vital role in the event’s success. Principal Joseph Gray, speech-language pathologist Janay Conley, educator Reginelle Sanders, along with the school’s security and custodial teams, were instrumental in ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience. District 89 Early Childhood and Services Coordinator, Brianna Lasaponara also provided key support that helped bring the evening together.

Various community resource partners played a crucial role in expanding access to information and services. Ray Graham Association was present to offer valuable guidance and resources to attending families. Special recognition is extended to Catherine Campos, Senior Director of Day Recreation Services and Agency Outreach, and also Jan Mallak for their commitment and engagement.

Additional support came from Gateway Special Recreation Association, with Ryan Massengill, Director of Therapeutic Recreation Services, contributing to the evening’s success.

The event was made possible through the generosity of sponsors, including Beyond Athletics Chicago, District 89, Invigorated Home Care, The Culture and More, and The Autism Axis Project, alongside supporters Angie Jenkins, Ballarie Smith, Devin Nunley, Leola Mixon-Harrell, and Tamekia Lindsey-Hatchett.

Behind the scenes, dedicated youth outreach volunteers including Jewan Williams, Essence Craig, and Danaya Wilson who all helped ensure the event ran seamlessly, embodying the spirit of service that defined the night.
